Sleeve drafting

Image
Well the sleeve from the coat pattern I was using turned out so far from what i wanted that i decided to start from scratch. This is a sleeve draft based on the Rundschau system i found on the cutter and tailors forum. I have no idea what the finished sleeve will look like but the drafting was really fun!

Coat progress.... again. Well my coat project is progressing nicely. I have been taking my time with it, as I don't want to rush and get stressed out to finish, I want to enjoy the process. I have most of the body done, and have attached the collar. Here are a couple of pics from the other day. I still have to add some buttons and hem the body, the sleeves will be difficult as I want replicate the Denham's sleeves as much as possible, but I have no pattern so I will have to draft from scratch. Also I need to figure out what to do for the button holes. In my previous projects the buttons holes that I made with my machine turned out horribly, so I might do hand sew button holes this time.  Wish me luck.

Here us the picture that was supposed to go with the previous post.

Progress

Front of coat almost done. I just placed the buttons on here for the picture. Need to topstitch the front, and then i can put the body together. Sweet!

These are the buttons for my coat project.

Button Holes

The button holes on the Denham's coat have an interesting feature. See picture. I spent a little time cutting, and a lot of time thinking, and was able to work it out on my second try. They are just hand stitched in the sample.

Mobile blogger app sucks

Sorry for the sideways pics. I used the mobile blogger app for android.

Draft of coat

Image
Here is the draft i sewed up to adjust for fit. I used the med pattern and it was way too tight across the shoulders.  long way to go yet.

In my previous post I mentioned this book of Men's coat patterns from Japan. Here is a link to it on Etsy if anyone is looking for a copy. http://www.etsy.com/listing/61669506/mens-coat-by-ryuichiro-shimazaki Note: the patterns DO NOT include the seam allowance.

Welcome to my Blog. I will be posting pictures of things that interest me, Photos (Light), Men's Clothing, and tailoring (Cloth) and Motorcycles (Internal Combustion), as well as anything else that strikes my fancy. I am currently working on a winter coat project, and will post picture of my progress. I saw this coat on the Denham's site, after visiting their store in Amsterdam. It was in their 2010 collection, but was a limited run and is no longer available. Have made myself some clothing in the past, I thought to myself, I can make that!  Well we will see. It is made from re-purposed military surplus, ponchos for the outer, wool blankets for the insulation, and Japanese selvage denim for the lining. I needed a pattern to work from, as I am not talented enough to draft my own, YET! So I found a book of Men's coat patterns from Japan by  Ryuichiro Shimzaki. I used one of the patterns to sew up a muslin coat to work on the fitting. I'll post pictures ...
